PERSONAS
We began our design with parents in consideration. We needed to create something that differed from what was already in the app store. Turns out, parents had a lot to say about how their children were responding.
Our researched personas helped us to understand what frustrations were present with apps that were currently in the market.
Our personas' represented, mirror the frustrations we found on reviews for the most popular chore and children's apps.
Through our research, we came up with an idea for a reward system that benefits both children and parents: Customizable characters and a play element to the app.
MOODBOARDS
After researching the few kid's chore apps that are available, we created mood boards of different looks and feels to set our UI design apart from the competition.
INITIAL SKETCHES
We began our design process by downloading similar apps and testing the interfaces. Taking into consideration parents' opinions and complaints on the few existing kids chore apps, we built our first wireframes.
Our wireframes organized our brainstorming and allowed us to visualize how our screens would flow.
There were many complaints about other apps not having reward systems, so we made sure to incorporate a customizable avatar feature and character reward system.
We made four versions initially landing on this one to take a step further.
Each version differed in chore organization, home screen layouts and parent functions.
We chose our final version as it was clean, inviting for kids and easily functional for parents to set up and hand off.

WIREFRAMES
Our initial wireframes allowed us to plan out the parent and child portion of the app separately. We needed the parent account to be secure and manageable and the kids portion of the app to be simple and fun.
FINAL UI DESIGN
Once we tested out the usability of the wireframes utilizing Sketch prototypes, we created our final design.
All of our design decisions stemmed from extensive research on kid's apps and designing with children in mind:
-Pastel colors to keep the app fun and colorful
-Rounded buttons for a kid-friendly design
-Rounded typography that is easy to read
-Recognizable icons for children that cannot read
